Why is Meat and Fat Bad? People used to eat lard and not have the health problems we have today. What changed in our food supply? Why is meat and fat bad for us now? 50 years ago, people ate meat, butter, whole milk and full-fat everything and dozens of eggs a week - cooked in lard or butter, of course. Low fat, vegan and vegetarian was unheard of or only for the Hippy's. Now, most people purchase low-fat everything, use margarine and have reduced their consumption of meat and most people don't even remember the lard container in the fridge. However, cancer rates are skyrocketing and somehow meat is to blame? Bull-pucks.
I keep seeing how low-fat this and low-fat that is supposed to be so good for us, reduce our cancer risk, reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes and all that. Cancer rates are skyrocketing, diabetes is skyrocketing and heart disease is still a high-rated killer. All this with margarine, low-fat everything and reduced meat consumption by more and more people over the last three decades. Studies do show that high fat diets, higher consumption of red meats and full-fat foods are associated with an increased risk of developing cancers, diabetes and heart disease. What has changed to make this strange turn of events. Fifty years ago, cancer rates were less than one third of what they are today. Meat, eggs and dairy were not causing problems, but now they are. What's different? After banning dumping of household sewage from rivers and streams in the 1970's because it was too toxic and causing reproductive disorders in fish and the fish were too toxic to eat, we started dumping the dried solids from municipal waste into the ocean. Even with billions of gallons of salt water flowing over the area, the results were environmentally catastrophic and there are still sections of ocean that cannot support life. We renamed this toxic sludge 'biosolids' and spread it on our agricultural fields. (Read the full story here: Sewage for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner The plants take up the toxins, we feed the toxic food to our livestock. Studies show that these animals store the toxins in their fat cells, and so do humans. Phthalates, bisphenol A (BPA) , triclosan, parabens and more are building up in the soils and contaminating our food supply. As more studies are done on our food supply to detect these chemicals, it is becoming obvious that the endocrine disrupting chemicals in consumer goods, such as cleaning and body care products, are being taken up by the plants and coming back on our plates. Scientists are not using animal fat to cause cancer in human tissue to study cancer treatments or 'cures' for humans. They use the chemicals that are found in the fat to cause cancer in human tissue and lab animals to study cancer treatments for humans.
