Irresponsible, Unethical, Corrupt and Illegal Practices of Johnson and Johnson Management Outright lies to the FDA (video included), blatant abuse of trust and power, here are details the BS of Johnson and Toxin, I mean Johnson and Johnson. Johnson and Johnson is a conglomeration of over 250 companies (click here for the list). These companies are divided into three distinct areas: Consumer goods (such as baby care, Aveeno, Neutrogena), Medical diagnostic equipment (such as blood glucose monitors, joint replacements, blood screening products) and Pharmaceuticals (such as birth control, pain management, diabetes management). Many of the divisions are sub-companies, so JNJ is responsible for recalls or defects for each of these companies. This is very important to keep in mind when looking at the large number of recalls and defective products since JNJ is ultimately responsible for each of these 250 companies. However, when the parent company, JNJ, knows of defective products, the parent company should act ethickally and pull the product from the market before additional harm to consumers occurs rather than wait until ordered by the FDA. Chronic and Ongoing Fraudulent and Illegal Marketing of Risperdal Yet another whistleblower to add to the list. Scott Bartz has come forward with information regarding JNJ illegal marketing of Risperdal, fraud against Medicare/Medicaid and insurance, unclaimed kickbacks and more. Check out the latest laundry list of JNJ corruption. (IN THE UNITED STATES DISTRICT COURT FOR THE EASTERN DISTRICT OF PENNSYLVANIA, Docket No. 05-6010) $1 Billion Expected in Faulty Replacement Hips DePuy ASR Hip implant devices were a metal on metal joint. The metal would break down over time and resulted in chromium and cobalt, toxic metals, leaching into the blood stream of those who had the implants. This information was withheld from the public and JNJ continued selling the faulty joints even though they had been aware of the problem for years. (NewsInferno, The Street) $50 Million for suppressing oral cancer test to prevent lost revenue from potentially carcinogenic Listerine sales JNJ decided to renig on a contract for an effective oral cancer test due to the risk of the test showing that products, such as their Listerine, increase the risk of oral cancer. Listerine, which obviously contains ingredients that increase oral cancers, brings in over $1 Billion in annual sales. (Bloomberg: J&J Suppressed Oral Presention Cancer Test Over Listerine Link, Suit Says) $68 Million On Known Risks Associated With Ortho Evra Birth Control Patch JNJ knew of the dramatically increased risk of death associated with the Ortho Evra birth control patch. The patch is still on the market even while lawsuits are piling up and being paid. However, although there are numerous dead young women, the lawsuits have only cost JNJ $68 Million but profits far exceed the cost of dead women with profits above $1.6 Billion. (MSNBC: Did drugmaker hide birth control patch risks?) $16.56 Million in Fentanyl Patch JNJ was aware of the defective problems with the Fentanyl patch, a prescription product for pain, but continued selling the patch anyway without any change in design. The faulty product lead to death of a patient. (Court of Appeals Affirms $16.56 Million Judgment in Defective Fentanyl Patch Case CHRONIC Recalls I started this a while ago, when I realized that many ingredients in Johnson and Johnson children's body care products are not safe, are restricted or banned in countries other than the US. For that article, click here. Over the weekend I looked deeper into Johnson and Johnson and what I found is totally messed up. Phantom recalls, lies to the FDA, a family of 250 companies from body care to diagnostics to most of our drug industry as well as the CEO being one of the recipients of $25 billion bailout bundle given to JP Morgan Chase, since he's a member of the board - which, by the way, is the bank our government uses for disbursing welfare and which is, currently gouging poor people in Washington State $0.85 per transaction and charging $700,000 to the Washington State government for access. Most of us konw about the massive number of Johnson and Johnson drug recalls in the last year. CNN put together a list of Johnson and Toxin recalls, View their list here.Phantom drug recall. Seems as though Colleen Goggins, Worldwide Chairman, Consumer and Personal Care Group of Johnson and Johnson, raking in $1.52 million in compensation in 2010, has a Policy and Procedure for "Retrievals". Since an outside vendor is used, without notifying the FDA, they sort of stumbled onto this one, there is no way to know what may, or may not be, lurking in drugs in our homes across the country. If there is a term for the procedure, "Retrieval", it would be most likely that 'Retrievals' have been done in the past - but on which products and for what reason? How many of those products harmed our children without our knowledge? However, emails and memos show that there is a totally different story - she knew exactly what was going on. The FDA can only protect us from those who don't lie to the FDA. But then again, the FDA claims they had no knowledge, but emails show that may not be true, either. In my opinion, we shouldn't need the FDA - adults who manage multi-billion dollar corporations that are the backbone of our economy should be adults with honesty and integrity and shouldn't need a baby sitter paid for by us, the taxpayers. Ms. Goggins is compensated $1.52 million per year and claims to have no clue what is going on in her area of responsibility. Why does she still have a job? The money we spend on products produced by Johnson and Johnson and their subsidiaries, is her salary. Our money finances her compensation. If she is not doing her job, has no idea what is going on in her area of responsibility - to US, not the company - we should be demanding her immmediate termination or resignation. Here's a link to the over 3 hour oversight hearing. The oversight hearing was an oversight of the FDA oversight. So, our tax dollars pay for baby-sitters to watch over the baby-sitters to watch over an ADULT who, obviously, lacks the ability or integrity to do their job which we pay $1.52 million per year by trusting to purchase their products. Why doesn't this make sense to me? HouseResources.org: House Oversight Committee. Documentation is surfacing that shows Johnson and Johnson was planning on performing a silent recall, or, as Ms. goggins put it, a 'Retrieval', on the Children's Tylenol that was recalled last year. According to CNN Money: An inside look at 'Phantom' drug recalls, the product, Children's Tylenol, Benedryl and Motrin, the recall was due to "bacterial contamination" and "small metal parts" - a potentially deadly contaminant. A 'Retrieval' would have left all those defective medications, continuing to be used by millions around the world. There is already one suspected death from the product. However, it will be difficult for a doctor to ascertain whether a death of an ill child was due to the illness or the medication - effectively letting Johnson and Johnson off the hook for knowingly allowing a defective product to hit the market, and cause the death of children. How would a doctor treat internal bleeding of a child if they did not have the information that a product that a mother trusted to purchase may contain "small metal parts"? The worst part of this is that Johnson and Johnson was aware of the excessive active ingredient, as well as bacterial contamination and the possibility of "small metal parts" for at least a month, possibly longer, before the actual recall was initiated. Source: Johnson & Johnson may have planned phantom Tylenol recall. On top of the lies regarding the 'Retrieval' that was caught by the FDA (thank you, FDA, for trying to do your job), Johnson and Johnson just settled a bribery case. I understand that the FDA cannot do their job and protect consumers when the FDA is being fed LIES by those responsible for the safety and integrity of their products. And now the story goes that, we, the taxpayers, must fund the FDA takeover of three Johnson and Johnson plants due to non-compliance and defective products produced by Johnson and Johnson. Source: U.S. takes over three Tylenol plants. $70 Million in Bribery Settlement Johnson and Johnson admitted to bribing officials in Greece, Poland, Romania and Iraq for preferential treatment. They settled for $70 million - sounds like a lot but it is less than 2 days net profit. Source: Bloomberg: Johnson & Johnson Will Pay $70 Million Over Bribery Claims. Ongoing Class Action Lawsuit for METHYLENE CHLORIDE in BABY Shampoo Currently, Johnson and Johnson, along with Walmart, are being sued for the presence of a banned ingredient (since, obviously, JNJ fills cheap Walmart brands with their products), methylene chloride, in their baby care shampoo. Methylene chloride is banned for use in cosmetics because it is associated with cancer and other human health problems. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics attempted to include two other ingredients in the lawsuit, formaldehyde and 1,4-dioxane, classified as 'probable human carcinogens' by the EPA - and these 'contaminants' are banned in China and most European countries because they are dermally absorbed and increase the risk of our babies, our children, developing cancer. However, since there is minimal regulation on those two chemicals that are byproducts of the manufacturaing process, they were dropped from the filing. The contaminants were found ONLY because the Environmental Working Group tested the shampoos. Johnson and Johnson does not even know that is in the products they sell for use on our children - but these toxic products were on the shelves of our stores and mothers were unknowingly washing their children, their precious babies, with products that will increase the liklihood that their children will develop cancer. The deceptive marketing practices included statements that Risperdal was safer than similar products and understated the risks of potentially fatal diabetes as well as misleading labeling. This is according to Bloomberg, a premier site for updated business news and financial information. In addition, although 50% of Risperdal sales included children, the FDA has never approved Risperdal for use in children. Adverse events in children included male and female children developing breast tissue and secreting breast milk which forced doctors to put the children on another drug to control the mammary growth and secretions. This is in addition to the increased and potentially fatal development of diabetes as with use in adults. The complete story regarding children's use of Risperdal is located CBS bNet, J&J Wrongly Marketed Antipsychotic Drug Risperdal to Kids. Added November 2011: J&J drug protocols cost taxpayers millions, lawsuit claims $19 Million for Patent Infringement Coronary Stents Contrary to media re-writing history, JNJ is not getting out of stents because the market is slowing, or they didn't keep up with innovation or they just quit this health care segment. They are getting out because they got busted, convicted of patent infringemnent for stealing the patent for 'JNJ stents' from Boston Scientific Corporation. More in the news regarding JNJ lack of integrity: Bloomberg reports that JNJ must pay $19 million in lost profits and royalties for patent infringement damages on coronary stents. And yet another ongoing lawsuit, Johnson & Johnson Hid Antibiotic Levaquin Risk, Lawyer Says. Imagine that... It is important to be aware of the fact that Johnson and Johnson is a conglomerate of over 250 companies. (click here for the list) These companies supply numerous body care brands including Johnson Baby, Aveeno, Shower to Shower, Neutrogena, Lubriderm and many others, medical diagnostic equipment and over the counter and prescription medications. While the FDA has had to take over 3 of the Johnson and Johnson McNeil facilities, who is checking into all of the other facilities? Johnson and Johnson? And, how many silent 'Retrievals' will be done based on their findings? Guess we'll never know, because this company would have allowed metal fragments in their baby Tylenol products if they hadn't been caught before performing a 'silent recall' - leaving consumer safety, the safety of our children, out of their decision to protect corporate profits rather than our babies.
